ATELIER CALAS ARCHITECTURE is available for new projects

Based in Marseille and Aix-en-Provence, L'ATELIER CALAS ARCHITECTURE was founded in 2005 by Guillaume Calas, architect DPLG, who graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Marseille in 2004 with honours and then, in 2007, graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Lyon with a degree in high quality architecture and engineering.

Winner of the Albums of Young Architects and Landscape Architects in 2012 (under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture and the French Institute of Architecture), the work of ATELIER CALAS ARCHITECTURE is characterised by a sensitive and situated approach to the project.

These architects consider that in the construction process, architecture is a prior intellectual service, capable of grasping the issues of an era and a territory, in order to propose constructive solutions in accordance with a site, a climate and a quality of life for the uses it houses.

The writing of quality architecture begins with the reading of the site. The topography, orientation, soil constitution, climate, presence of plants, local know-how, relations with the pre-existing built environment, availability of local resources, etc. are all elements that feed the idea that the studio takes care to analyse with the needs of the users in order to legitimise the emergence of a new building in the landscape and to inscribe it intelligently in a territory.

"We favour an architecture where the meaning is above all given by the evidence of the constructive choices and the relationship of an architecture with the ground that hosts it. An architecture that is in love with the nature of the place, but which is opposed to any regionalist drift.

Whatever the scale of the project, ATELIER CALAS ARCHITECTURE tries to reconcile a rigorous and conscientious working method with a sensitive approach to the site and the project. Two complementary approaches, capable of responding to the challenges required by the act of building today, but also to the responsibilities of architecture with regard to the inscription of a building and a human activity in our contemporary territory.

Guillaume Calas and his team work on different types of projects: residential, workplaces, schools, new buildings and renovations. Their choices of intervention can take several forms, but always with an environmental awareness and a concern for the integration of the building, of an activity, in a site and the thickness of a landscape.
