CAMBIUMS is available for new projects
Cambiums is an architectural workshop created in 2014 by Eric Viprey, architect, designer of passive buildings and trained carpenter-cabinetmaker. Based in Lyon and the Jura, we develop contemporary, sensitive, sustainable and ecological architecture. The projects vary between new construction, rehabilitation of existing buildings, energy renovation and custom furniture design.
This company is the culmination of an atypical journey guided by a great passion for the wood material, more than twenty-five years of diverse professional experience in France and abroad, particularly in Switzerland, and a clear desire to approach the project in a more permeable form between the world of architecture and that of construction.
Cambiums places its projects within a strong environmental approach where energy performance and precision in detail are systematically sought. The use of ecological and environmentally friendly materials is one of our priorities, with a large place given to wood.
Our goal is to make buildings that are energy efficient, well constructed and pleasant to live in for their inhabitants.
With the numerous experiences acquired on renovation and extension projects, a constantly renewed attention to the “already there” has developed. Without the past, but because it contains layers of information, it allows us to articulate our desires and our mental images with an environment and to ensure that the architectural gesture can be both frank, radical and non-violent, but never gratuitous.
Eric Viprey is a DPLG architect from the Strasbourg School of Architecture and holds a DESS in Wood from the Epinal Wood Engineering School. His passion for the wood material that appeared since childhood was the common thread of his atypical career which led him from a CAP in cabinetmaking to the profession of architect.
Naturally seeking to promote wood in construction, he then worked in various architecture and interior design offices, notably in Switzerland and at Tectoniques architects, which is very involved in the wood sector. His curiosity also pushed him to participate in the work of the Rural Studio in the United States.
The domestic scale of the projects developed since the creation of Cambiums has awakened his interest in old buildings, vernacular architecture and its numerous environmental implications. Eric still maintains a practice in wood today through carpentry and cabinetmaking.
If you have a project and if you are sensitive to the ecological approach and natural materials, contact Eric Viprey now to discuss your project!
