The DoubleSix agency defends sober, sincere and attentive architecture. Based in Bordeaux, it operates mainly in the Bordeaux region, but also throughout Aquitaine, in the Paris region and in the Antilles. 

Why DoubleSix Architecte (DSA)?

There are several explanations for this name: DoubleSix has its origins in the game of dominoes. In dominoes, the double six is ​​the pawn that initiates the game. The domino is a simple shape in which there are a multitude of combinations, like so many ways of approaching a project. 

It is then a tribute paid to the Antilles, more particularly to Guadeloupe, which saw the founder of the agency, Karim LOMBION architect HMONP. Indeed, this game is very developed in the overseas islands, it is a real tradition, especially among the oldest.

It is also a nod to Charles-Edouard Jeanneret, better known as “Le Corbusier”, architect, town planner, decorator, painter, sculptor and man of letters. He is one of the main actors of the modern movement which revolutionized architecture.

Creator of the “Dom-Ino” house (contraction of “Domus” and “Innovation”), he set up a system so that the houses could be arranged in an L or U shape like dominoes.

But above all, the “Dom-Ino” house is a structural principle combining posts and concrete slabs, thus making it possible to dispense with load-bearing walls and thus generating the concept of Free Plan.

The heritage that emanates from the agency is reflected in the desire, as much as possible, to blur the boundaries between the interior and exterior, to magnify the clean and straightforward lines.

We affirm that architecture holds a preponderant place in society and in everyday life because it shapes our living environment. Everything is a matter of context. Each of us, each story, each place is unique, in this sense, each response must be specific and singular. We must decipher and analyze the needs and desires of each which will be the breeding ground for an adapted response and 'a successful project. The project must integrate what is visible (the building, the city, aesthetics, etc.) but also what is underlying (culture, sustainability, social issues, etc.). It’s all about creating meaning.

Building means confronting a culture, a place, people. It’s being at the service of an idea, whatever its scale. The commitment must be the same whether it is designing a bench or a media library but always keeping the magic of returning to childhood and telling new stories. In no case should architecture reflect of an ego because we must never forget that the architect builds for and with others.

And sustainable development in all this?

The act of building is by definition a consumer act. However, a well-thought-out, fair, economically reasoned, ecologically sober and pleasant project to live in will, in fact, be a project that will last over time because its users will be keen to preserve, maintain and conserve it as much as possible. long possible.
